PAAB ASSISTS SCHOOLS AFFECTED BY LRA2 CONSTRUCTION

HULU LANGAT (Jan 6): Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) has launched the PAAB Schools Sustainability Programme 2019-2020, in a move to engage itself and help students and teachers in schools which are directly affected by the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (LRA2) project.

PAAB chief executive officer Abdul Hadi Ali said the first phase of the programme involved Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Dusun Nanding and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dusun Nanding in Hulu Langat and SK Ampang and SMK Taman Kosas in Ampang.

“The selection of the schools is based on the impact of the LRA construction, which is the biggest in Southeast Asia, to the schools concerned, such as structural damage due to piling and plumbing works along the roads and the affected areas,” he told reporters after launching the programme here today.

Also present was  PAAB chairman Datuk Seri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani.

Abdul Hadi said, through the initiative, which is part of PAAB’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, various activities, including campaign,  would be held to expose students and teachers on the importance of  conserving water, as well as to save water and the environment.

The activities will be carried out with the cooperation of the National Water Service Commission (SPAN) and LRA2 project developers and contractors, he added.

Abdul Hadi said school aid would also be given to students from less affordable families in the affected schools .

Today, the four schools also received tithe contribution from PAAB totaling RM5,257.50,” he added.

On the progress of the LRA2 project, costing RM3.7 billion, he said, it recorded work progress of 80.88 per cent as of last December.

He said LRA2 is capable of supplying 1,130 million litres of water daily to subscribers in the Klang Valley.

In another development,  Abdul Hadi said three states, namely Kedah, Terengganu and Pahang, had yet to finalise the water supply services restructuring agreement with PAAB.

“The delay is not intentional, but pertains to the details of the agreement. The process for the signing of the agreement is expected to be completed by middle of this year,” he added.
