Kuala Lumpur, A story about three good friends trapped in a conflict to get clean water that are scarce during the dry season and started to blame one another with their bad water-wasting habits in their daily routine had captured the hearts of juries and wins Best Film. The winning short film simply called TANDUS, brings home RM5,000 cash prize and winning trophy at the 11th KLEFF Kuala Lumpur Mayor Awards Ceremony today under Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) Short Film Competition 2018 (PSF2018) held at Black Box, Publika, Kuala Lumpur.
TANDUS produced by UiTM Puncak Perdana students also bagged Best Director Award through Izaq Yuzaini Ismail and Best Original Screen Play Award categories. For KLEFF River of Life Award 2018, TANDUS also received the First Runner-Up award.
Meanwhile, the First Runner-Up for PSF2018 went to a Hokkien short film produced by Universiti Sains Malaysia students, with their winning entry ‘REUNION’. They walked away with cash prize RM3,000 and a trophy. REUNION also bagged the Best Script Award and Special Jury Award.
The Second Runner-Up prize went to ‘WHAT MATTERS MOST’ from Taylor’s University.
HELP University students with their entry ‘WAYS (NOT) TO SAVE WATER’ brought home the Special Merit Award under KLEFF Mayor’s Award by Kuala Lumpur City Hall category.
PAAB initiated the inaugural PSF2018 to further spread the message on the importance of being water-wise among Malaysians, especially to the younger generations. It aims at increasing awareness on the need to value water and use it wisely.
After about six months since its inception, 19 short films from various local universities competed at the PSF2018 guided by our theme “Slow The Flow. Save Water”.
PAAB debut PSF2018’s first edition in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF). Among those present at the awards ceremony were Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Director of Irrigation and Drainage Department, Md. Khairi Selamat, Chairman of PAAB, Datuk Seri Dr. Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani and Acting Chief Executive Officer of PAAB, Abdul Hadi Ali.
PAAB was established in 2006 as a wholly owned company under Minister of Finance Incorporated and is part of Federal Government’s effort to structure the water services industry in Malaysia.
