Paab To Explain Water Restructuring Pact Issues To Terengganu Govt
KUALA TERENGGANU (April 8): Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) will give an explanation to the Terengganu state government on matters related to the Water Services Industry Restructuring Agreement which will provide more benefits to the people.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said Terengganu was the only state in the peninsula that had not finalised the agreement with PAAB.
“We will give an explanation (to Terengganu government leaders) so that they can get accurate information on the matter…there may be a misunderstanding about the concept of this agreement because it has been further developed.
“We hope Terengganu will join PAAB because we know that the state is facing financial difficulties in building two or three plants needed. PAAB will provide funds to help Terengganu,” he told reporters at the Iftar Ramadan programme for the Kuala Nerus Parliamentary constituency, here on Friday.
Mohd Khairuddin, who is also Kuala Nerus Member of Parliament, said apart from the plants, the water woes in Terengganu was also due to the old piping system which would definitely require hundreds of millions to be upgraded.
PAAB, a wholly-owned company under the Minister of Finance Inc that was established in 2006, is regulated by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) through the Water Services Industry Act 2006.
It is also established to assist the federal government in realising the National Water Services Industry Restructuring Plan by developing water asset infrastructure in the peninsula with a competitive financing rate.
