On 14 April 2008, Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (“PAAB”) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with SMHB Sdn Bhd in association with Ranhill Consulting Sdn Bhd and KTA-Tenaga Sdn Bhd, for consultancy services of the proposed development of Langat 2 water treatment plant and water reticulation system in Selangor/Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The consultancy agreement involves the study, design and construction supervision of Langat 2.
In line with PAAB’s commitment to transparency, the Consultancy Services was procured through an open tender process. The tender which ran from 10 August 2007 to 30 August 2007, attracted the interest of several consultancy firms. The bidders were evaluated based on their technical abilities and the criteria of selection were clearly spelt out in the tender documents. After thorough evaluation, the contract was awarded to SMHB Sdn Bnd in association with Ranhill Consulting Sdn Bhd and KTA-Tenaga Sdn Bhd. As the custodian of the nation’s water assets, it is PAAB’s responsibility to ensure that the Langat 2 water treatment plant is built as per cost and quality, and delivered on time.
The Langat 2 water treatment plant is part of the Pahang-Selangor Interstate Water Transfer Project, which will ease the water shortage problem in Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur by transporting raw water from Pahang.
